Most homeowners have never hired a landscape construction company before. Maybe you’ve had a lawn service. But a patio, a retaining wall, a full yard transformation – that’s different. The scale is different, the timeline is different, and the stakes are higher.
This is a walkthrough of exactly what it’s like to work with Clean Slate, from the first phone call through final cleanup. No marketing language – just the actual process.
Step 1: The First Call
You call us at (888) 912-6706 or fill out the estimate form on our website. Someone picks up or gets back to you the same day.
The first conversation is short. We ask a few basic questions: What are you looking to do? Where’s the property? What’s your rough timeline?
We’re not trying to sell you anything on that call. We’re figuring out whether your project is something we handle and whether a site visit makes sense. For most Cape Cod and Plymouth County homeowners looking for landscape installation, masonry, or excavation work, the answer is yes.
Step 2: The On-Site Walkthrough
We come out to your property – usually within a week of the first call during our busy season, sooner when we can.
The walkthrough is where the real conversation happens. We walk the space with you, look at drainage conditions, soil, any grade changes, existing structures, access for equipment. We listen to what you actually want to use the space for, not just what you think you should ask for.
This is also where we’re honest if something isn’t going to work the way you’re imagining. If the grade won’t support the patio size you want, we tell you. If there’s a drainage problem that needs to be addressed before any planting happens, we tell you. If what you’re describing is out of scope for your budget, we tell you that too – better to know upfront.
There’s no charge for the site visit, and we don’t pressure you to make a decision on the spot.
Step 3: Your Free Estimate
After the walkthrough, we put together a written estimate. Depending on the project size, this typically comes back to you within a few days.
The estimate breaks down:
- Scope of work in detail (what we’re doing and what we’re not)
- Materials specified by type and grade
- Labor
- Project timeline
- Any permitting requirements we’ve identified
- Payment terms
- Warranty
No line items that say “miscellaneous” or “materials TBD.” If something might change the cost, we tell you that upfront as a possible contingency, not a surprise later.
Step 4: The Build
Once you approve the estimate and we schedule the start date, here’s what happens:
Materials arrive first. Gravel, pavers, stone, or whatever the project calls for. We coordinate delivery so materials are on-site when the crew arrives.
The crew shows up on time. Our team is the same crew every day – not a rotating cast of subcontractors. The people who start your project finish your project.
We communicate. If something unexpected comes up during the build, you hear from us the same day, before any changes are made. We don’t make decisions that affect cost or scope without checking with you first.
We keep the site clean. Every day before we leave, the work area is cleaned up. Tools are organized, debris is managed, and your property doesn’t look like a construction disaster zone every evening. This is something our clients mention consistently.
Step 5: The Cleanup
When the project wraps up, we do a final walk-through with you to make sure everything looks right and you’re happy with the result. If anything isn’t right, we address it before we leave.
The cleanup is thorough. Excavated soil, packaging, cut-off paver pieces, equipment – all of it leaves with us. Your driveway, lawn, and neighboring areas are cleaned up. This is what “clean slate” means to us – you get the finished product without having to clean up after us.

Frequently Asked Questions About Working With Clean Slate
How far in advance should I reach out?
Our busy seasons are spring and fall. For projects you want done in May or June, reaching out in February or March gets you a better shot at your preferred start date.
How do payments work?
We take a deposit at project start, typically 30-50% depending on project size, with the balance due on completion. We don’t ask for full payment upfront.
What if something goes wrong after the project is done?
We stand behind our work. If there’s a problem with settlement, installation quality, or materials in the first year, call us and we come back and make it right.
Do you do smaller jobs or only big projects?
We do both. A single cobblestone apron repair and a full property transformation are both projects we take on. We won’t give a small job second-class treatment.
What areas do you serve?
All of Cape Cod and Plymouth County – including Falmouth, Mashpee, Barnstable, Hyannis, Yarmouth, Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham, Sandwich, Plymouth, Kingston, and Duxbury.
